Winner: And the winner is… Plant Therapy! At a glance, the brand comes out on top. Although both brands hit a good balance between quality and price, Plant Therapy has a particular focus on educating the customer, and focusing on essential oil safety, including a KidSafe line. It also doesn’t use MLM marketing, meaning there is not a possibility of just anyone becoming a sales representative and giving incorrect advice, as all their advice originates from aromatherapy professionals.
What’s the Difference Between Them?
Quality
When it comes to Plant Therapy vs Young Living, both provide pure essential oils.
Young Living offers great quality, pure oils derived naturally from plants. They guarantee this good quality through their own Seed to Seal promise and three pillars, sourcing, science and standards. They promise their products are genuine, pure and free from harmful synthetics.
Their pillars are infused into every aspect of their company, production and products, carefully selecting their partner farms and employing extensive testing (and retesting) to ensure the highest quality. However Young Living oils are not organic, and it is worth noting that some of the terms they use for labelling are not industry wide.
Plant Therapy also pledges to provide totally pure, additive-free oils that are completely natural. They guarantee the highest quality by doing both organoleptic testing by their own aromatherapy professionals as well as third party GC/MC testing.
They even allow you to access the test results for each batch online making them totally transparent. Finally Plant Therapy also offers a selection of fully organic oils which mean amazing quality with a reduced environmental impact.
Winner: Plant Therapy. While both products offer high quality oils, Plant Therapy are fully transparent, with 100% pure, natural and additive-free oils developed and tested by aromatherapy professionals. They also have an organic oils range unlike Young Living.
Plant Therapy vs Young Living Product Range
Both brands also have a wide range of oils and other products from oils, to beauty products to diffusers.
Young Living supplied single oils, blends and roll ons, as well as massage oils, personal care products and diffusers and accessories. Young Living also offers dietary oils which Plant Therapy doesn’t.
This is great if you are looking for oils specifically for internal use, but can be a little risky if you haven’t been advised by a medical or aromatherapy professional to use them.
In fact this is why Plant Therapy doesn’t recommend using oils internally, and should be done with great care. Young Living also sells a range of supplements, health products and even apparel.
Plant Therapy also offers a wide range of oils including singles, synergy blends, organics and roll-ons. They stock carrier oils and diffusers and body care products, and a selection of diffusers.
They also have an awesome KidSafe line. This is a child friendly line of oils developed by Aromatherapy expert Robert Tisserand, perfect and safe for kids between 2 and 10 years old.
Winner: Young Living. Young Living may actually pip Plant Therapy to the post, boasting a slightly wider range of different products vs its competitor, including a big range of health products, dietary oils, and a bigger range of accessories. Plant Therapy does include an organics range and KidSafe oils however, which Young Living lacks.
Selling model
One thing that Plant Therapy does differently vs Young Living is the way they sell their products.
Young Living follows a Multi-level Marketing or Direct Selling model. This means that just about anyone can sign up as a representative and start selling Young Living products.
Although this can be great for oil lovers and enthusiasts to build up their own essential oil businesses, it also means non-qualified, non-trained people can begin selling. And therefore some representatives may make false or inaccurate claims.
This selling model means it is also harder to guarantee, across-the-board customer service, and there have been some complaints in the customer care department.
Plant Therapy follows a simple online selling model directly through the website. Users just create an account and then purchase oils or other products directly.
This means that any advice or information given on behalf of Plant Therapy is vetted and verified by trained essential oils professionals. And that is the way they want it. This also means that customer service is more trustworthy and easy to contact.
Winner: Plant Therapy. Although there can be some benefits to Direct Selling business model, Plant Therapy’s straightforward online buying model means that there is no chance of circulating false, inaccurate or potentially harmful information around oils and their safety.
Education
Educating customers about the oils they buy is almost as important as the oils themselves. Essential oils are potent and powerful so should be used with care. They both do well vs other brands in this regard.
Young Living do educate their customers on using essential oils and essential oils safety. The website contains some guides and best practices for safe use as well as guidelines for which oils to use safely with children.
Young Living also has a blog where they publish many articles on the benefits and properties of oils, different uses and best safe practices. However as discussed their representatives are not necessarily trained and may not give out correct info.
Plant Therapy is especially focussed on educating their customers. They are completely transparent about their products, listing the botanical name, extraction method, origin country, and test results for each batch.
Their website includes a ‘Learn’ selection that includes a video series on oil safety as well as a link to their blog where they publish many articles on oil uses, benefits and practices. Plant Therapy also have a newsletter and they even have a Facebook group for sharing safe essential oil recipes.
Winner: Plant Therapy. Although both brands do provide information on how to best use essential oils, Plant Therapy seems to have more rigorous standards about the information they give out. From not partaking in Multi-level Marketing, to preferring to abstain on selling oils for internal use to avoid people incurring any health risks.
Price
When deciding on which essential oils to buy, price is important. Obviously the ideal brand will not compromise on quality while still hitting a good-value price point. To make sure a brand is legitimate, check that their oils are sold at a range of price points. Beware of suppliers that sell all their oils for the same price.
Young Living works to provide affordable oils to the world, without compromising on quality. As discussed, having a range of price points is normal, which Young Living does. Having said that this range can be quite extreme, and for some oils you can definitely find good quality alternatives for cheaper elsewhere.
Plant Therapy sells essential oils for a budget friendly, reasonable price. The company was founded in 2011 with the founding mission of providing excellent-quality oils for affordable prices.
And that is exactly what they do. Plant Therapy provides prices that don’t break the bank while guaranteeing high quality. The wide range of scents and bottle sizes also means you can find price point variations that work for you.
Winner: Plant Therapy. Both suppliers do offer affordably priced essential oils vs many competitors on the market. Plant Therapy comes up top as they set out in their company values they aim to provide reasonably priced products and Young Living’s price range can creep up a lot higher for some products.
Plant Therapy vs Young Living: The Verdict
Overall, looking at the pros and cons of both Plant Therapy and Young Living, we recommend Plant Therapy as the top essential oil brand to try out next.
With total transparency, amazing pure quality, an obsession with education and safe practice for adults and kids alike, as well as affordable pricing, we can’t beat it! Will you love it as much as we do?
